where we address common questions and concerns about ultrasound imaging and its role in monitoring baby growth during pregnancy. Whether you’re a soon-to-be parent or simply curious about this remarkable technology, we’re here to provide answers and insights to help you better understand the process.
Ultrasound imaging also called ultrasound scanning or sonography is a procedure that uses high-frequency sound waves to create an image of part of the inside of the body.
3D image is still image and the 4th dimension “D” is time, therefore when you are watching a baby during a live scan that is 4D.
At the moment ultrasound is a very safe test that uses no radiation. The scanning mechanism is the same in 2D, 3D and 4D scans only there is a special probe and the software in the ultrasound machine that processes the image from 2D to 3D/ 4D. We at Bonding before Birth follow the correct guidelines to ensure the safety of you and your baby.

You do not require a referral from your GP for our 3D and 4D baby scans.
Yes, we can. Our sonographer will do their best to be able to sex your baby if they can’t on your first visit we will bring you back free of charge for another try. We can never quote 100% precision even if we obtain an obvious view of the gender.
Gender determination is more accurate from 16 weeks, though for some babies it can be a week or two later.
You can tell our sonographer that you do not want to know the sex, and they can avoid showing it to you.
It is entirely up to you when you wish to see your baby. The best time for the 4D scanis between 24 – 32 weeks when baby has started to lay down plenty of fat, making their facial features clearer.
Bonding before Birth scan is a non-diagnostic ultrasound scan, so we do not check for abnormalities during a bonding scan. If our sonographer does notice something unusual during a basic fetal well-being check then with your permission you will be referred to your midwife or GP.
Yes, if you are having twins you must inform us at the booking stage, so we can arrange an extra time. We suggest the best time to come for your 4D twins scan is between 22 – 26. Due to the extra time and effort, there is a small £25 surcharge.
Yes, of course, you can bring maximum 4 guests (not including yourself and partner) at bonding before birth scan studio. Children are welcome to join, but we normally suggest that you bring another adult so they can look after them whilst you are having your scan.
We will always make every effort during the scan to get clear images of your baby but there are some factors that can affect the success of your scan. The best 4D scan depends on weeks, the position of the baby and placenta at the time of the scan. A high BMI of mum and decreased amniotic fluid around the baby also affect the quality of 3D/4D images.
If the images are not very good we will ask you to get up, walk about and have a drink to encourage your baby to move. If this still doesn’t work we will re-arrange your appointment and try again.
*a free re-scan will be offered onlyif you have selected the package that includes a re-scan policy.
You do not need to have a full bladder for 3D/4D Bonding scan. But, if you are coming for an early reassurance or gender scan around 16 weeks with us a full bladder does really help.
